SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — Jimmy Kimbrough, a man accused of running a tree service scam across Shelby County, was arrested after deputies connected him to multiple thefts.
Victims Report Incomplete Tree Service Jobs
The scheme began on December 20, 2024, when the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) responded to a theft report on Mudville Road in Millington. According to the victim, Kimbrough, claiming to represent “Johnson & Son’s Tree Service,” offered tree-cutting services for $3,500. However, after receiving payment, Kimbrough left, promising to return the following day to complete the work, but never showed up.
The second incident occurred on January 6, 2025, when SCSO deputies responded to a theft report on Nutall Oak Cove, just north of the Mississippi state line. The victim told deputies that he paid Kimbrough $4,600 for tree-cutting services on December 31. Kimbrough started the job but left with his crew and equipment after being paid, never completing the work.
Felony Charges and Arrest
Following these reports, the sheriff’s office issued warrants for Kimbrough on charges of felony vandalism and theft of property. His bond was revoked due to his extensive criminal history, which includes multiple instances of accepting payment for tree services and abandoning jobs.
Kimbrough eventually turned himself in at 201 Poplar, where he was arrested. SCSO is now seeking additional victims who may have been targeted by Kimbrough in similar scams.
