In a major crackdown on online banking fraud, police in Jharkhand have arrested five cybercriminals across Giridih and Deoghar districts. The operation targeted individuals involved in phishing scams, fake banking apps, and impersonation of bank officials.
Among those apprehended is Ramesh Mandal (29), a cybercriminal wanted in 26 separate cyber fraud cases. He was arrested at a deserted location near Kaju Bagan, following a tip-off received via the Pratibimb app.
Alongside Mandal, Ranjit Kumar Mandal and Ashish Mandal were also detained. Police confiscated four mobile phones and five SIM cards from the trio, which were allegedly used to distribute fake APK files and impersonate bank officials to defraud victims.
In Deoghar, two more suspects were arrested in the Bhura forest area. Intelligence reports indicated that the individuals were posing as customer care executives to phish financial information from unsuspecting victims. Authorities seized two mobile phones and three SIM cards from the duo.
Officials stated that the arrests are part of an ongoing effort to curb cybercrime in the region, which has been affecting bank customers across multiple districts. The suspects have confessed to their involvement, and police are investigating further to uncover the full network behind these scams.
