Jharkhand police have arrested five individuals in two separate cases in Palamu district, including a man accused of murdering his own son.
In the first case, Amit Kumar Thakur of Ratanpur village, under Panki police station limits, allegedly killed his 18-year-old son, Suraj Kumar, late Saturday night. According to Panki Circle Inspector Punam Toppo, Thakur fled the scene after the crime. Police located him the next day in a deserted area of Ratanpur and arrested him.
During interrogation, Thakur confessed that he had been estranged from his wife for over a year, but his son maintained contact with her, which angered him. On Saturday night, Thakur reportedly used an axe to kill his son. The murder weapon has been recovered, and the accused has been sent to judicial custody.
In a separate incident, a special police team arrested four members of a gang at Medininagar bus stand on Monday. The group—identified as Shambhu Kumar Sah (43), Shashibhushan (27), Tinku Kumar Soni (25), and Sumit Soni (27)—hailing from Sitamarhi district in Bihar, were involved in a scam where they went door-to-door, promising to clean gold and silver jewelry before disappearing with the valuables.
Palamu Superintendent of Police Reeshma Rameson stated that the suspects were arrested after their suspicious behavior at the bus stand attracted police attention.
