Two men accused of stealing gold jewelry worth over Rs 1 crore from a jeweler’s residence in East Singhbhum, Jharkhand, have been arrested in West Bengal, police confirmed.
On June 30, the suspects robbed gold and cash from the home of 70-year-old jeweler Arun Kumar Nandi in Chakulia. They fled towards West Bengal, prompting a police investigation under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Under the direction of SSP Piyush Pandey, a special raid team led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Ghatsila and supervised by SP (Rural) Rishabha Garg coordinated with West Bengal police for a joint operation in Jhargram district.
During the raid near Bada Banshol, Porhati, police attempted to stop a motorcycle with three riders. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled in different directions. After a chase, two accused were caught: Md Rafique, originally from Aurangabad district in Bihar but residing in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan district, and Niranjan Goud of Jamshedpur’s Bagbeda police area. The third suspect remains at large.
Authorities continue the search for the remaining suspect.
