The Crime Branch Unit-3 has arrested Shailesh Dilip Kamble (38), a driver employed at B.B. Banthia Jewellers, for allegedly staging a robbery and stealing gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 5.90 lakh in Panvel.
Kamble had filed a false complaint claiming that two men on a Pulsar motorcycle had robbed him at knifepoint near Khanda Colony railway bridge on September 11. According to Kamble, the assailants snatched gold and cash he was transporting.
Police investigation revealed that Kamble was assigned to collect valuables from the company’s offices in Khanda Colony and Kalamboli. Instead of delivering them, he hid the jewellery and cash inside the dickey of his electric TVS iQube scooter.
A thorough probe led by ACP (Crime) Ajaykumar Landge and Senior PI Avinash Kaldat found multiple discrepancies in Kamble’s story. No suspicious activity was reported at the alleged crime scene. Under sustained interrogation, Kamble admitted to fabricating the robbery.
He returned the hidden gold and cash, confirming the theft was an inside job. ACP Landge said,
“The accused tried to mislead police by staging a dramatic robbery, but his version was full of inconsistencies. He finally admitted to the crime and the entire amount has been recovered.”
Kamble has been arrested, and further investigation into the case is ongoing.
