Jeweller R Ravichandran Kidnapped, 6 Arrested in Egmore Robbery

Gang nabbed with gold, silver, cash in Sivaganga-Madurai case

The Egmore police have cracked the kidnapping and robbery case involving jeweller R Ravichandran (64) from Karaikudi, Sivaganga district. Six men from Sivaganga and Madurai have been arrested in connection with the crime that took place on June 26.

After purchasing gold and silver for his shop, Ravichandran was waiting near Sacred Heart Church on Pantheon Road, Egmore, when the gang forced him into a car. The assailants assaulted him and stole 131 grams of gold, 1.25 kilograms of silver, and Rs31.4 lakh in cash before abandoning him near Porur.

Police, acting on a complaint and CCTV evidence, identified and apprehended the suspects: Prabhu alias Kamal (36), Muthuramalingam (45), Dinakaran (36), Premkumar (38), another Prabhu (42), and Muthulingam (42). Investigations revealed the gang had been monitoring Ravichandran’s trips to Chennai, knowing he regularly carried large amounts of cash for jewellery purchases. A search for other accomplices is ongoing.

Recovered items include 203 grams of gold, 3.2 kilograms of silver, Rs6.5 lakh in cash, seven mobile phones, and a car used in the crime.
