Ludhiana police have arrested three individuals—including a local jeweller—for their involvement in a series of robberies involving the use of intoxicants. The suspects were identified as Abdul Hasan of Ghaziabad (currently residing on Daba Road), Jamaluddin of Barabanki (also living on Daba Road), and Parminder Bagga, a jeweller from Shivaji Nagar.
The arrests followed a complaint by Neetu Kumari, originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, now residing in Sector 32-A, Ludhiana. She reported that three unknown individuals made her inhale a toxic substance and then stole her gold ornaments and Rs8,000. Her husband, Hira Kumar, was also present during the incident.
Police quickly apprehended Abdul Hasan and Jamaluddin. During interrogation, they revealed that they operated an unregistered auto-rickshaw with a third accomplice, Hussain from Ghaziabad, who is currently staying in a hotel in Ludhiana. The lack of registration allowed them to evade detection while targeting victims across several city locations including Shivpuri, Shiv Chowk, Giaspura, Haibowal, and others.
Their modus operandi involved approaching people under false pretenses, rendering them unconscious with intoxicants, and fleeing with cash and jewellery. They then sold the stolen gold and silver ornaments to Parminder Bagga, splitting the proceeds among themselves.
Police recovered two mobile phones, an unregistered auto-rickshaw, and several items linked to witchcraft from the gang’s possession. Investigations are ongoing, and further arrests may follow.
