Jesus Mejia Gomez Arrested for Social Security Fraud in Iowa

Man Used False SSN to Register Vehicles in Johnson County

Iowa City, IA — Jesus Mejia Gomez is in custody after being accused of using another person’s Social Security number to fraudulently register several vehicles and a mobile home in Johnson County.

According to criminal complaints, the Department of Transportation Bureau of Investigation and Identity Protection allege that Gomez used a false Social Security number to complete the title and registration for a 2007 Toyota Camry on July 2, 2024.

Gomez faces charges related to identity fraud and vehicle registration violations.

The Johnson County Jail website indicates that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on Gomez, meaning he will be transferred to ICE custody upon release.

He is currently held on a $6,000 cash bond.
