PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — A 38-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly trying to sell a GPS unit stolen from a boat docked in Portland.
Portland Police say they responded to Union Wharf after receiving a report that a GPS had been stolen from a vessel sometime between May 9 and May 13.
On Tuesday, investigators discovered the stolen GPS unit was listed for sale online. Detectives responded to the ad and arranged a meeting with the seller on Congress Street.
The suspect, identified as Jessie Gerhrmann, who police say is unhoused, arrived at the meeting location with the stolen GPS. He was arrested on the spot.
Gerhrmann has been charged with theft by receiving stolen property and violation of probation. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
