Jerry Zappa Arrested After Harrisburg Stolen Car Chase

Zappa faces multiple charges following vehicle pursuit

HARRISBURG, Ill. – Jerry D. Zappa, 33, of Harrisburg, was arrested on Nov. 28 after a stolen vehicle led police on a city pursuit, according to the Harrisburg Police Department.

Officers spotted the stolen vehicle around 4:30 p.m. on Locust Street. When they attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled but soon crashed into two unoccupied cars. Three suspects then ran on foot.

Police, assisted by Saline County deputies and bystanders, apprehended Zappa and two juvenile females. The juveniles were released under the Illinois Juvenile Court Act.

Zappa faces multiple preliminary charges including unlawful possession of a converted motor vehicle, driving while license revoked, reckless driving, unlawful restraint, methamphetamine possession, three counts of fleeing to elude police, two counts of endangering a child, and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.

Authorities said Zappa is also a suspect in two other vehicle theft investigations. All charges are preliminary, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
