HARLINGEN — A 32-year-old woman from Harlingen was arrested Friday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of 71-year-old Aida Garcia earlier this month.
Jennifer Banda was taken into custody and charged with collision involving death, tampering with evidence, and making a false report. The charges stem from an incident on January 10, when Garcia was struck by Banda’s vehicle in the 300 block of North Business 77, according to a police statement released on Sunday.
After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene immediately. Following a thorough investigation, police identified Banda as the driver involved in the crash. Banda was arrested, and her bonds have been set at a combined $171,000.
The Harlingen Police Department expressed their condolences to Garcia’s family and reaffirmed their commitment to seeking justice for the victim. “This arrest represents the tireless effort of our investigators to bring justice for the victim, and we remain committed to ensuring accountability for this tragic incident,” the department said in the release.
