In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in the Northeast, a joint team of Manipur Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested two men and seized over 2 kilograms of suspected heroin on Friday.
The accused have been identified as:
Jenarul Mia (21), son of Janjali Mia, resident of Shasani, Maldah District, West Bengal
Deba Das (18), son of Lakshi Das, resident of Ward No. 2, Bokajan Bazar, Karbi Anglong District, Assam
The anti-narcotics operation led to the recovery of 2.066 kg of suspected heroin powder. In addition, police seized two mobile phones and a motorcycle used in transporting the contraband.
According to police officials, the duo was intercepted during routine surveillance, and their behavior raised suspicions. A search of their vehicle led to the discovery of the heroin, packed in two separate packets.
Police have confirmed that the accused are currently being interrogated, as authorities attempt to uncover the broader network behind the trafficking operation. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is ongoing.
Officials described the bust as a major win in the region’s crackdown on rising drug-related crimes, particularly in Manipur, which has been identified as a vulnerable zone for narcotics transit.
