JONESBORO, Ark. — A Lawrence County man was arrested over the weekend in Jonesboro after an alleged shoplifting attempt at Academy Sports.

Jeffrey Allen Presson, 34, of Hoxie, is facing a theft charge of $1,000 or less from a building, second offense, after an incident reported on September 6.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched to 2800 Parkwood Road, the location of Academy Sports, in reference to a shoplifting complaint.

Presson allegedly picked up a flashlight inside the store and attempted to return it for a gift card at the service desk. He then walked out to his vehicle, returned, and tried to make purchases using the gift card before being taken into custody.

The affidavit states that Presson has several prior convictions, is currently on felony probation, and has an active warrant out of Lawrence County. Judge David Boling also noted that Presson has nine previous misdemeanor failures to appear.

His bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety, and jail records indicate an additional hold from an outside county.

Presson is scheduled to appear in court again on October 30, 2025.
