Colorado Springs police arrested two known car thieves just after midnight on Thursday, May 15, 2025, following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), 33-year-old Jeffrey Gaw and 25-year-old Anastayshia Simon were first spotted late Wednesday night at the Park Inn on N. Chestnut Street near I-25 and W. Fillmore. Officers from the Falcon Division recognized the suspects, who had been previously seen driving a stolen 2001 blue Dodge 1500 pickup truck.
Two days earlier, officers attempted to stop the same stolen truck, but Gaw and Simon evaded capture. Due to the prior escape, detectives with the CSPD Motor Vehicle Theft Unit began surveillance and followed the truck with Gaw behind the wheel and Simon in the passenger seat.
Detective Baughman of CSPD decided to use a grappling device to disable the vehicle at the intersection of New Center Point and Constitution Avenue, near Powers Boulevard. The maneuver was successful, and both suspects surrendered to authorities without further incident.
Jeffrey Gaw and Anastayshia Simon were each charged with Motor Vehicle Theft. Gaw received an additional charge of Felony Eluding due to his role in fleeing police.
The arrests are part of an ongoing crackdown on auto theft in the Colorado Springs area.
