Former Deputy Jeffrey Athey Arrested Again for Robbing Same Bank

SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) – A former Davidson County deputy is behind bars after allegedly committing his second robbery at the same Salisbury bank.

58-year-old Jeffrey Athey was arrested on Thursday, July 31, and charged with common law robbery following an incident at F&M Bank on Avalon Drive.

According to Salisbury Police, officers responded to a holdup alarm around 2:40 p.m. at the bank and quickly confirmed a robbery was in progress. Athey was detained outside the bank moments later with cash in hand. Police say he obtained the money by handing a note to bank staff — the exact method he used in a 2022 robbery at the same location.

In that earlier case, Athey also walked out calmly with the stolen money, only to be arrested in the parking lot after getting into his pickup truck. He was charged with common law robbery in 2022 and held under a $75,000 bond.

This time, Athey is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation.
