JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ga. (WFXG) — A Jefferson County High School teacher is facing criminal charges in connection with multiple burglaries and thefts on the school campus, authorities said.
Mitchell Vaughn was taken into custody this week. School officials confirmed that the district is cooperating fully with law enforcement but could not provide further details due to the ongoing investigation.
The case began on Jan. 8, when the district’s Maintenance Director reported that a 2023 John Deere Gator side‑by‑side had been stolen from an enclosed building on campus. Further investigation revealed evidence of burglaries at four other structures on school property.
Investigators said the stolen items included high-value table saws, additional construction equipment, pitching machines from the softball field storage room, and a personally owned cargo trailer that was also damaged during the theft.
The Jefferson County School District stated it will continue working with law enforcement as the investigation proceeds.
