MIAMI, Fla. — Jean Carlos Honores Vasquez, 31, was arrested Thursday in connection with a frightening armed home invasion robbery targeting prominent Miami jeweler York Valdes earlier this year.
According to Miami-Dade jail records and an arrest affidavit, Vasquez faces charges including armed occupied burglary with a battery, armed kidnapping, and armed robbery.
The March 13 incident occurred shortly before midnight at Valdes’ residence, where he was with his wife, their 17-month-old daughter, and a family friend. Two masked men armed with handguns jumped over a fence, followed Valdes into the home, and held the victims at gunpoint while a third suspect entered.
The robbers threatened to kill the family as they ransacked the house, stealing jewelry and clothing valued at about $75,000. They also demanded access to Valdes’ jewelry stores, but he convinced them he did not have overnight entry.
One suspect, 35-year-old Wilfredo Antuna, fled in Valdes’ Cadillac XTS, while the other suspects remained inside for over an hour. Valdes attempted to escape, prompting the suspects to flee the area.
Following the robbery, a confidential source identified 58-year-old Keith Ingraham attempting to sell stolen jewelry on the street, including a unique owl face ring designed by Valdes. Ingraham was arrested on charges of dealing in stolen property.
Phone records linked Vasquez to the suspects, and his phone was tracked near the scene at the time of the robbery. Vasquez, who moved to the U.S. from Peru and lives in Utah, traveled from Miami to Utah about nine days after the crime.
Vasquez remains held without bond in Miami-Dade jail under an immigration hold.
Valdes, who spoke publicly after the robbery, expressed concern for his family’s safety, especially his pregnant wife. “They took all my jewelry, my watches,” he said. “Right now I don’t care, more the family, you know.”
