The Major Case Squad has announced the arrest of Jean Barroso, 27, an undomiciled man charged with committing two burglaries on Monday, June 16, 2025, in Island Park.
According to detectives, Barroso attempted to enter Saatchi Jewelry at 4545 Austin Boulevard by prying open the rear door of the adjacent Ananau Peruvian Cuisine at 4547 Austin Boulevard. Unable to gain entry through the businesses directly, Barroso climbed onto the roof and successfully broke into Saatchi Jewelry. Inside, he stole assorted jewelry valued at approximately $22,000 before fleeing the scene.
Following a thorough investigation, Barroso was identified and arrested without incident.
Barroso faces two counts of third-degree burglary and is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the First District Court, located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
Additional investigation revealed that Barroso is not legally present in the United States, with his next immigration court appearance set for Thursday, July 17, 2025.
