A Junior Engineer (JE) working in the electricity department has been arrested for allegedly scamming people out of Rs30 lakh by promising fake government jobs and misusing his position for electricity bill fraud, police reported on Sunday.

The accused, Vijay Pal Singh, a resident of Chandausi city, is said to have lured multiple individuals with the promise of secure government employment. He provided victims with fraudulent appointment letters to make the scam appear legitimate.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (South), Anukriti Sharma, Singh also exploited his official role by illegally offering electricity connections and collecting online payments for bills — all of which were never officially recorded or processed.

Police revealed that four criminal cases had already been registered against Singh prior to this arrest. Following his detention, he has been sent to judicial custody.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and have urged other potential victims to come forward.
