Jayven Ward Arrested in Bruce Mitchell Homicide Case

Suspect Had 22 Outstanding Warrants, Police Say

WAYNESBORO, Ga. (CSRA/WJBF) — Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the death of Bruce Mitchell, who was reported missing in May. The Waynesboro Police Department confirmed that 22-year-old Jayven Ward was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 10, by the U.S. Marshals Office and Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division.

Ward was arrested at the Salem Arms Apartment Complex in Richmond County, where authorities also executed a search warrant. During the search, officers discovered multiple firearms, magazines, ammunition, and marijuana. Additional charges may follow, according to police.

Mitchell was reported missing by a family member on May 20. Officers conducted a welfare check at his residence on the 200 block of Lovers Lane, where they found him deceased.

Ward is currently facing 22 outstanding felony warrants related to this case and other incidents. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
