A contractual employee at Rajkot International Airport, Jayraj Khachar (28), has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold jewellery and cash from passengers’ luggage. The Zone-1 Local Crime Branch (LCB) apprehended Khachar and recovered the stolen valuables.

Investigations revealed that Khachar was involved in two separate thefts in October. According to DCP Zone-1 Hetal Patel, Khachar stole jewellery and cash from a passenger’s bag on October 12, and in a second incident on October 26, he allegedly stole ₹85,000 from another passenger.

Khachar had been working at the airport for the past five years as an electrical maintenance technician, a role that gave him access to CCTV systems. Police stated that he had switched off the CCTV cameras while committing the thefts to avoid detection.

Khachar is currently in LCB custody and will be handed over to the airport police for further interrogation.
