BETTENDORF, Iowa — A 37-year-old woman from East Moline is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from an elderly resident at a senior living community.

Jayme Krouth is accused of taking between $2,000 and $4,000 worth of jewelry from an 87-year-old resident of The Fountains Senior Living Community in Bettendorf, according to an arrest affidavit filed in Scott County Court.

Between May 14 and May 29, Krouth worked as a front-desk clerk at the facility. During that period, she allegedly entered the victim’s apartment and took the jewelry “without right, license or privilege to do so,” the affidavit states.

The investigation revealed that on May 29, Krouth sold some of the stolen jewelry at a pawn shop in East Moline under her own name. During a voluntary police interview, Krouth not only admitted to the theft but also confessed to stealing jewelry from two other now-deceased residents while previously employed at the facility.

Krouth was arrested on a warrant and has since been released on bond. She is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on August 5 in Scott County Court.

The case underscores growing concerns about elder abuse and theft in assisted living environments.
