TOLEDO, Ohio — A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old in south Toledo earlier this year.
Jaylin Tyler was taken into custody on a murder charge for the death of Derrick Rogers, who was found dead in a parking lot near Arlington Avenue and the University of Toledo Medical Center on January 6. The Lucas County Coroner’s Office ruled Rogers’ death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
Court documents reveal that Rogers was ambushed by several people while meeting with Tyler in the parking lot. Tyler allegedly played a role in setting up the attack, during which Rogers was shot and killed.
Toledo police initially responded to a shots fired call near the scene and found a second victim—a 20-year-old man—driving erratically after being shot. He was hospitalized with at least one gunshot wound.
