Buyers awaiting ready-made garments and dress materials were left frustrated when 2,784 parcels valued at Rs 31.80 lakh disappeared in transit. What initially seemed like a logistics error was soon uncovered as a deliberate theft by a courier staffer.
Jayesh Chauhan, employed at the Khatodara pickup centre of a leading logistics company in Surat, was arrested for allegedly stealing the consignments. Instead of transporting the parcels via the company’s vehicle to the central warehouse in Kacholi village, Chauhan reportedly hired a private vehicle and diverted the goods to an undisclosed location.
Company officials noticed the parcels hadn’t arrived at the warehouse and attempted to contact Chauhan, but he remained unresponsive. CCTV footage later revealed Chauhan loading the parcels into a private vehicle and driving off.
Following a police complaint, Saroli Police launched an investigation, leading to Chauhan’s arrest. Inspector SR Vekariya confirmed, “We have recovered most of the parcels and are working toward 100% recovery while investigating possible accomplices.”
The stolen parcels contained high-value items, including garments, saris, and dress materials, mainly sourced from e-commerce platforms. The incident has raised concerns over courier security and internal monitoring within logistics companies.
