Shankaranarayana (Karnataka): Police have arrested a man for allegedly cheating a resident of Raichur district of several lakhs of rupees by promising gold at a cheaper price.
The accused, identified as Jayaprakash D, a resident of Gandhinagar, Challakere, Chitradurga district, reportedly took Rs 5 lakh from Gopal, a resident of Chandrabanda village, on Kamalashile Road in Siddapur, claiming it was payment for 150 grams of gold. However, he handed over fake gold and fled the scene. A case was registered at Shankaranarayana police station.
Under the guidance of Kundapur subdivision DYSP H D Kulkarni, Shankaranarayana police traced and arrested the accused from the Kote area of Chitradurga. Authorities seized Rs 4.5 lakh in cash and a car worth approximately Rs 10 lakh allegedly used in committing the crime.
The accused has been produced before the court, and further investigation is ongoing
