The City Crime Branch arrested 60-year-old Jayanti Didawala for stealing Rs 25 lakh from a car parked at Hotel Ugati in Kudasan, Gandhinagar. Didawala is part of a notorious gang that targets luxury vehicles by breaking their windows to steal valuables. Police recovered Rs 19.60 lakh from him during the arrest.
Crime Branch inspector Dipak Dhola said Didawala, a resident of Mahajania Vas in Naroda Patiya, operated alongside other gang members. One accused, Nakul Tamanche from Kubernagar, is still absconding.
The gang’s modus operandi involves moving around the city and nearby towns on motorcycles. While one member keeps watch, another uses a screwdriver to smash car windows and quickly flee with valuables on their bike.
CCTV footage from the hotel parking lot helped police identify and capture the accused in this case.
