Reality television personality and fitness influencer Jay Dudhane was arrested at Mumbai’s international airport in connection with an alleged real estate fraud, police officials confirmed on Sunday.
The arrest stems from a complaint filed by a retired engineer, who accused Dudhane and four of his family members of cheating him out of Rs4.61 crore. According to the FIR, the victim was induced into purchasing five commercial properties in Thane that were already mortgaged to a bank.
Senior Police Inspector Pravin Mane stated that Dudhane was taken into custody on Saturday while attempting to travel. Investigations revealed that the accused allegedly submitted forged documents to gain the victim’s trust, including a fake bank clearance certificate and a counterfeit demand draft amounting to Rs4.95 crore.
The scam came to light when the bank issued a seizure notice for the properties, alerting the complainant to the fraud. Subsequently, police registered a case against Dudhane and his family members under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating and forgery.
Further investigations into the case are currently underway.
