Javon Smith Charged for Using Fake $100 Bills in Oakland Co.

Counterfeit cash used to buy pizzas in two towns

by Sophia Bennett

A 21-year-old Inkster man is facing felony charges after investigators say he used counterfeit $100 bills to pay for pizzas in two Oakland County communities.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Javon Lavell Smith ordered pizzas from restaurants in Milford and Highland Township on Oct. 7. Smith allegedly paid each restaurant with a fake $100 bill and then kept the real cash he received as change. Authorities said he left both locations without ever picking up the food.

The case was investigated by detectives from the Highland Township substation and the Milford Police Department. Smith was arrested earlier this week at his home by the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team.

Smith was arraigned Tuesday in 52-1 District Court in Novi on two felony counts of uttering and publishing counterfeit bills or notes. He was released on a personal bond.

A probable cause conference is set for Nov. 19.
