EL PASO, Texas — Javier Antonio Monzon, 32, was arrested Friday morning after leading law enforcement on a dramatic multi-state chase. The pursuit began in New Mexico and ended near the Eastlake exit in Far East El Paso, Texas.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Monzon is wanted in connection with a robbery in New Mexico. The chase involved multiple agencies, including New Mexico State Police, Anthony Police Department, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, and Precinct 1 Constable’s Office.
Monzon reportedly sped through early morning traffic on Interstate 10 heading east before officers successfully apprehended him. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a charge of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle. His bond was set at $100,000.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Monzon will be extradited to New Mexico to face robbery charges pending in that state.
