HOOKS, Texas (KSLA/Gray News) – A tragic incident in Hooks, Texas has led to the arrest of a mother accused of causing her infant son’s death by placing him in scalding bath water.

According to the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded to a medic assist call on February 4 at a home on Kennedy Circle, where emergency responders were performing CPR on an 8-month-old baby.

The infant was later pronounced dead, and an autopsy determined the cause of death as thermal injuries (scalding), with the manner of death listed as homicide.

Investigators say Jatoria Renae Cleamons, 21, of Texarkana, admitted she placed her son in scalding water after becoming frustrated that he had soiled his diaper.

An arrest warrant was issued charging Cleamons with injury to a child and manslaughter. She remains in custody as the investigation continues.
