MATHEWS, Va. —
A man and woman were arrested Tuesday for alleged elder abuse and financial exploitation in Mathews County.
Deputies responded on September 2 to a report from the Morgans Branch area involving a bedridden 58-year-old resident. Authorities identified 24-year-old Jason Alexander Mackey Seeker and 33-year-old Chelsea Jade Stein—both living in the home and claiming to be the primary caretakers.
The investigation revealed the victim had been deprived of adequate care and subjected to financial exploitation over time. The victim was taken to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital to receive treatment for injuries.
Seeker and Stein were arrested Monday and charged with felonious abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in serious injury, along with financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult by an agent. An emergency protective order has also been issued.
Following their court appearances, Seeker was released on a $3,500 unsecured bond, and Stein on a $3,000 unsecured bond.
Authorities continue to investigate the case.
