GAITHERSBURG, MD — A Silver Spring man has been arrested after being charged with stealing a vehicle in Gaithersburg on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Investigations Division arrested 21-year-old Jason Ronil Medrano Reyes for the theft of a 2019 white Mercedes-Benz. The theft occurred after Medrano Reyes broke into a locker at Planet Fitness, located in the 2200 block of Randolph Road, while the victim was working out.
Medrano Reyes stole personal items and the keys to the victim’s vehicle. By the time the victim noticed the theft and reported it, Medrano Reyes had already fled the scene in the stolen Mercedes-Benz.
Police located the stolen vehicle in the 2200 block of University Boulevard and initiated a traffic stop. However, Medrano Reyes refused to stop, leading officers on a short pursuit. The vehicle eventually came to a halt in the 9500 block of Gwyndale Drive when Medrano Reyes popped the driver’s side tire and fled on foot, evading capture.
Through investigative efforts, detectives identified Medrano Reyes as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant. On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Medrano Reyes was apprehended and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He has been charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft, and other related charges.
Medrano Reyes is currently being held without bond.
