VANCOUVER, B.C. — Nearly two months after a man was found dead in Vancouver’s CRAB Park, police have arrested and charged a suspect with first-degree murder.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) announced that Jason Hynatyshyn, 47, was arrested by homicide detectives on April 10 in Red Deer, Alberta.

B.C. prosecutors have formally charged Hynatyshyn with the murder of 51-year-old Brett MacDonald, whose body was discovered on the morning of March 22, 2025, making it the city’s first homicide of the year.

Authorities said MacDonald was shot on a gravel walking path on the northwest side of CRAB Park. A passerby found his body and alerted police.

Hynatyshyn remains in custody and is awaiting his next court appearance.
