Jason Herwill Faces Up to 15 Years for DUI Offense

Multiple court cases unfold in Douglas County

by Sophia Bennett

Several criminal cases unfolded this week in Douglas County District Court, including a delayed sentencing for Jason David Herwill, 33, who faces up to 15 years in prison for a felony DUI.

Herwill was arrested on May 7, 2025, at the intersection of Mottsville Lane and Foothill Road with a blood alcohol content of .255. He previously received a felony DUI conviction in Nevada County, California, following an October 12, 2021, arrest and a September 22, 2022, conviction.

His attorney, Alexis Duecker, questioned the accuracy of the pre-sentence investigation report, requesting corrections before sentencing proceeds. Despite the issues raised, the prior conviction still qualifies Herwill for significant prison time as a repeat DUI offender.

In a separate case, William Leeov Perkins, 39, received a suspended 19–48-month sentence for breaking into a relative’s home to retrieve a poetry notebook. Perkins has spent 573 days in custody since his February 10, 2024, arrest and underwent treatment at Lakes Crossing. As part of his probation, he must now apply to mental health court in Carson City.

Also in court, Charles Dean Chamberlain, 34, avoided trial by signing a September 8 plea agreement. He agreed to plead guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance for sale after allegedly selling 6.5 grams of methamphetamine in the Clear Creek Plaza parking lot on December 28, 2023. The agreement includes a recommendation for a suspended 12–30-month sentence.

Lastly, Georgette Nicole Soule and Eric Glenn Dodds, a couple from Big Pine, entered guilty pleas to felony possession of methamphetamine and failure to appear. The pair was arrested on December 7, 2024. Their sentencing is set for October 21.
