HAZLE TWP., Pa. — A man was arrested last month following a series of vehicle thefts and burglaries in the Hazleton area.
Jason Joseph Cieniawa, 41, of Huntingdon, was taken into custody on June 8 at a residence in Hazle Township after becoming a suspect in multiple theft incidents.
On June 7 at around 7:53 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police responded to a report of a stolen motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) from a detached garage at 415 Hillside Drive in Hazle Township. The victim said unknown suspects had broken into the garage and stolen both vehicles.
A friend of the victim spotted the stolen vehicles driving on East Broad Street in Hazleton and followed them until they were lost near the “Tent City” homeless encampment.
Police investigations revealed that Cieniawa was driving the motorcycle, and Miranda Lynn Derr, 26, of Hazleton, was involved in the theft. Derr was later located and admitted to being with Cieniawa during the crimes.
Cieniawa was arrested the following day and confessed to several other vehicle thefts, burglaries, and related offenses throughout the area.
He is currently held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
