In a significant breakthrough, Mumbai Police have arrested four men in connection with two ATM robberies totaling Rs11.68 lakh, which occurred in Kurla and Ghatkopar earlier this month. The accused, who had fled to Punjab, were tracked down and brought back to Mumbai on Monday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Jasbir Singh Sukhdev Singh (29), Gurpreet Singh Karnail Singh (27), Lakhbir Singh Baldev Singh (31), and Rachhpal Singh Baldev Singh (37). Lakhbir and Rachhpal are brothers from Bathinda village in Punjab. All four have been remanded to police custody until June 19.
The robberies took place on June 1 and June 7, with the gang targeting ATM kiosks of Abhyudaya Bank. Police said the group used spy cameras to record passwords and lock patterns. One of the accused, Rachhpal, is a technician and employed his technical skills to bypass the ATM’s locking mechanisms.
The first theft involved Rs8.68 lakh stolen from an ATM in Ghatkopar, while the second occurred in Kurla, where the gang looted Rs3 lakh.
“CCTV footage helped us identify the suspects. They were located in Punjab and arrested on Monday,” said Senior Inspector Ankush Khedkar of Nehru Nagar Police Station.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to both thefts. Investigators are now exploring whether they were involved in similar heists across states.
