The Kharar police have recently registered two more cheating cases against Jarnail Singh Bajwa, a Mohali-based realtor and the managing director of the Sunny Enclave housing project, bringing the total number of cases against him to 54.
In the first case, an investor complained that Bajwa had promised him multiple showrooms in Sunny Enclave in exchange for selling his land. However, the promised property was sold to someone else. The police have booked Bajwa under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following the investigation led by the Mohali SP (investigation).
The second case was lodged by Nitish Bhanot from Guru Nanakpura Colony, Jalandhar. Bhanot alleged that Bajwa took Rs32 lakh from him for a flat in Kharar but neither delivered the property nor refunded the money. After further investigation, Bajwa was again booked for cheating.
The Kharar police continue to investigate more complaints against Bajwa. According to officials, additional cases are expected to be registered as they probe further.
In a related development, a local court recently dismissed Bajwa’s bail application in connection with another cheating case filed against him and others at the Punjab state crime police station in Mohali. The same court had previously rejected nine other bail pleas from Bajwa concerning separate cases in the NRI police station of Mohali.
Bajwa was arrested on August 29 following an order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to investigate the numerous complaints against him. He had sought relief from the court, which resulted in a stay on the attachment of his properties in October.
