SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man was tased and arrested after allegedly stealing an iPad during a Facebook Marketplace exchange, according to the Shelby Township Police Department.
Officers were called to the 4000 block of Pebble Creek on Oct. 9 for a report of unarmed robbery. The victim told police they had arranged to sell an iPad 16 at the Pebble Creek Apartments, but during the exchange, the suspect — later identified as Jared Tyhir Barber — grabbed the device and ran off before completing the sale.
Police soon located Barber and ordered him to stop. When he fled, an officer deployed a taser, bringing him to the ground. Barber was taken into custody without further incident.
A search warrant executed at Barber’s home later recovered the stolen iPad, police said.
Barber was arraigned on Oct. 10 on charges of Larceny and Assaulting, Resisting, or Obstructing an Officer. His bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Police Chief Robert Shelide praised officers for their response, saying, “Their actions demonstrate the dedication and commitment our officers show in protecting our community every single day.”
