Greenville, NC – A Pitt County woman has been arrested and charged with dozens of felonies related to a large-scale identity theft operation, according to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).
Janna Dinee Hales, 44, of Greenville, was arrested on July 14 after a months-long investigation by the Major Crimes Unit, which was initiated following a citizen report in January 2025. The report was filed after the victim discovered multiple fraudulent charges on their bank statement.
Detectives identified Hales as the suspect through extensive evidence collection. She now faces the following charges:
40 counts of Felony Identity Theft
40 counts of Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretenses
1 count of Financial Transaction Card Theft
Hales was taken into custody and booked at the Pitt County Detention Center, where she is being held on a $21,500 secured bond.
She remains in custody as the investigation continues. Authorities are urging residents to monitor their financial accounts and report any suspicious activity promptly.
