Jammu and Kashmir Police have cracked multiple theft cases reported over the last two months in the Gandhi Nagar Sub-Division by arresting 13 individuals and recovering stolen goods valued at around Rs 27 lakh.
SP Jammu South, Ajay Sharma, addressing the media at Gandhi Nagar Police Station, revealed that complaints included chain snatching in Shastri Nagar and Gandhi Nagar, motorcycle theft in Valmiki Colony, construction material theft at Main Stop Gandhi Nagar, gold theft in Preet Nagar, and theft of BSNL junction box spare parts.
Following the complaints, separate FIRs were registered, and police used CCTV and smart city surveillance systems to identify and apprehend the accused.
Among those arrested are Pardeep Singh, a police employee from Resham Colony, and Varinder Singh of Gandhi Nagar, linked to chain snatching. The police recovered two gold chains totaling 5 tolas from their possession.
Mohammad Sadiq of Miran Sahib was arrested for motorcycle theft in Valmiki Colony, with the stolen motorcycle recovered. Two others, Fazl Hussain (near Hospital, Jammu) and Chandan Kumar (Greater Kailash), were nabbed for construction material theft; police recovered the stolen materials and a scooty.
In the BSNL junction box theft, five women from Barnala, Punjab—Banti, Sapni, Babli, Rajani, and Salochana—were arrested, and 8-10 kg of stolen copper wire recovered.
Additionally, three individuals, including a juvenile, had been previously arrested in connection with the Preet Nagar gold theft, with stolen gold valued at Rs 21 lakh recovered.
SP Sharma confirmed the total recovered property value to be approximately Rs 27 lakh and stated that further investigations are ongoing to uncover the complete criminal network.
