In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully seized over 10 kilograms of charas and a large sum of cash in two separate incidents in Anantnag district.
A police spokesperson reported that the operation was based on specific intelligence inputs, which led to a raid at the residence of Farooq Ahmad Kumar, a resident of Khul Chohar Mattan. A joint team of Anantnag Police and the concerned Executive Magistrate conducted a thorough search, recovering approximately 10 kgs of charas powder and Rs 2,16,650 in cash. Kumar was arrested on the spot, and a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Mattan. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
In a separate operation, Shahrukh Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Sheikh Mohalla Sallar, was apprehended during a routine check at Langabal Pahalgam. During the check, 120 grams of charas were recovered from his possession. Sheikh was arrested, and a case was registered at Police Station Pahalgam.
These arrests are part of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s continued efforts to tackle the growing drug trafficking issue in the region and prevent narcotic substances from reaching the local population. Investigations are still underway to uncover further details and connections in the drug network.
