On Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested 10 notorious drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act in Srinagar city, continuing their crackdown against the illicit drug trade.
According to a police statement, the arrested individuals have been identified as:
Rizwan Bashir Dhobi
Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat
Owais Hussain Mir
Nadeem Hussain Bhat
Sheikh Jibran Nisar
Raqib Lateef Bhat alias Amir
Abdul Ahad Bhat
Moin Khan alias Moin
The PIT-NDPS Act is being used as a tool to ensure that these individuals face stringent legal actions, as the authorities aim to curb the widespread issue of drug trafficking.
The crackdown on drug peddlers has been intensifying across the region, with police focusing on preventing the flow of illicit substances into the Union Territory. Intelligence agencies suggest that a significant amount of the drugs are smuggled across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), with proceeds being funneled into terrorist activities.
The authorities also mentioned that once youth become addicted to these substances, they can be manipulated and used as pawns by terrorist organizations. In addition to arrests, the police are attaching properties connected to the drug trade, believed to have been acquired through the proceeds of the illicit activities.
This operation highlights the ongoing commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police to combat drug-related crimes, which are seen as a significant threat to the youth and the security of the region.
