DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. – A South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) employee has been arrested and charged with embezzlement of public funds, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Jamesica Edwina Alford, 33, is accused of stealing $400 in cash while working at the SCDMV. The arrest followed a request by the agency for SLED to investigate the suspected theft.

According to the arrest warrants, Alford voided a customer’s transaction and then converted the cash to personal use. The amount taken was under $10,000, leading to a charge of embezzlement of public funds less than $10,000.

She was taken into custody and booked into the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center in Darlington County.

The case remains under investigation.
