James Woerner Arrested After Acid Attack on San Antonio Police

James Andrew Woerner, 38, was arrested on Saturday, July 19, after a violent encounter with San Antonio police that involved him allegedly throwing an acidic substance and a Molotov cocktail at officers, according to an arrest affidavit.

SAPD officers were attempting to serve multiple felony warrants on Woerner at the Sonterra Blue Apartments located at 922 E. Sonterra Blvd. His father reportedly warned officers ahead of time that Woerner intended to throw nitric acid during the arrest.

When officers approached, Woerner allegedly hurled the acidic substance at them. The chemical also hit the ground and began to “sizzle,” indicating its dangerous composition.

After the initial attack, Woerner fled and barricaded himself inside a building within the complex. During the standoff, he allegedly threw more acid at the officers and was heard shouting, “Everyone is going to die.” The affidavit also notes that he lit and threw a Molotov cocktail at officers.

Following a tense situation, Woerner was eventually taken into custody. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and obstruction or retaliation.

He is being held at Bexar County Jail with a bond set at $40,000.
