MILWAUKEE — Two men have been sentenced for their roles in a violent attempted robbery at Bouchards on November 18, 2014, which left a store employee with life-threatening injuries.

James Wheeler, 30, of Milwaukee, was sentenced on Friday, September 9, to 19 years in prison. His accomplice, DeAngelo Garcia, received a sentence of 12.5 years.

According to police, both men entered the business masked and armed. During the attempted robbery, a 36-year-old employee was shot and critically injured. He was transported to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Court records confirm that both Wheeler and Garcia pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

Wheeler, a previously convicted felon, had also been sentenced to four years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He is currently facing separate charges in a Milwaukee murder case, with trial proceedings scheduled to begin this fall.
