A New Orleans man and woman are in custody after being caught allegedly attempting to shoplift from a Walmart in Kenner, Louisiana.

According to the Kenner Police Department, the incident occurred on July 1, when 33-year-old James Mosley and 33-year-old Shandell Quinn were spotted at the self-checkout line using a tactic known as “skip-scan” to avoid paying for some items. Authorities say the pair tried to leave the store with $86.57 worth of unpaid merchandise.

They were initially detained by Walmart’s asset protection team and later arrested by Kenner police officers.

During the investigation, officers discovered Mosley had an outstanding warrant issued by the New Orleans Police Department for attempted second-degree murder. Additionally, Mosley was found to be on parole for several offenses, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, armed robbery, and third offense possession of marijuana.

Both individuals remain in custody as legal proceedings move forward.
