ORLANDO, Fla. (7News) — A Maine man has been arrested following a two-and-a-half-year investigation into violent threats sent to a Florida teenager via the Xbox gaming network, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
James Maynard, 32, of Pittsfield, Maine, was taken into custody on April 25. He now faces extradition to Flagler County on a felony charge of making written or electronic threats to kill.
Authorities say Maynard repeatedly harassed a Palm Coast teen through Xbox and Snapchat, sending disturbing messages threatening to kill the teen and their family, burn down their home, and make their parents “disappear.” The incidents were initially reported in July and November 2022, when the victim was still a minor.
Despite being blocked multiple times, Maynard allegedly created new profiles to continue the threats. After an extensive investigation by the Major Case Unit, detectives identified Maynard in January 2025 and secured an arrest warrant.
Maynard was booked into the Kennebec County Correctional Facility in Augusta, Maine, where he awaits extradition to Florida.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly praised the collaborative effort across state lines. “If you threaten one of our residents—even from another state—we will track you down and hold you accountable,” he said.
The investigation remains active, and officials say additional charges may still be filed.
