COOS BAY, Ore. — A Coos Bay man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a local Taco Bell, with police crediting a K9 officer for helping take the suspect into custody.
According to the Coos Bay Police Department, the robbery occurred around 11 p.m. on January 14 at the Taco Bell drive-through on South 1st Street. Investigators said the suspect, identified as 29-year-old James Love, allegedly approached the drive-through window wearing a mask and displaying what appeared to be a pistol before stealing the cash register and fleeing the scene.
Officers responded quickly and reviewed surveillance footage, which helped identify Love as the suspect. On January 19, police located him near Elrod Avenue, but he attempted to flee on foot. A CBPD officer deployed K9 Arco, who successfully apprehended Love. Police said the arrest marked Arco’s first successful capture.
Love was taken into custody without further incident. He is facing charges including second-degree robbery and second-degree theft, in addition to unrelated warrants from Coos County and the state of Washington.
Coos County Jail records show Love remained in custody as of January 26.
