Hawai‘i Island police arrested 30-year-old James Lee Nathan III of Hilo for burglary and drug-related charges after an early-morning break-in at a financial institution on September 18, 2024.
At approximately 1:46 a.m., officers responded to an interior motion alarm triggered at a financial establishment on Pauahi Street in Hilo. Upon arrival, they found Nathan III standing near a broken window. He was immediately arrested for burglary. A subsequent search revealed two reusable bags with the institution’s branding and four alprazolam pills.
Nathan III was taken to the East Hawai’i Detention Facility for processing and further investigation. On September 19, 2024, after consultation with the County Prosecutor’s Office, Nathan was charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal property damage, fourth-degree theft, and promoting a harmful drug.
Nathan’s bail was set at $21,100. Investigations continue as police work to determine if additional charges are forthcoming.
