A 19-year-old Boca Raton man, James Glenn Hopper, was arrested in Margate after allegedly assaulting a woman, climbing onto the hood of her moving car, and later stealing her vehicle.

According to the Margate Police Department, the incident began near Banks Road following a verbal dispute. While the victim was driving, Hopper allegedly elbowed her in the stomach near Winfield Boulevard and State Road 7. When she threatened to call her father and 911, he reportedly attempted to grab her cellphone to prevent her from contacting authorities.

Police say Hopper then exited the vehicle and climbed onto the hood as the victim continued driving for about a quarter mile before stopping. He later reentered the vehicle, and the victim drove to HCA Florida Northwest Hospital seeking assistance.

Outside the hospital, Hopper allegedly stole the victim’s car keys and drove away in her vehicle while she sought help from a bystander to call 911. Officers later instructed Hopper to return to the scene, where he was taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.

Hopper faces charges of battery, robbery, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and tampering with a witness. He was later released after posting a $3,000 bond.
